‘Tis the Season: Finding Holiday Decor in Escondido

Published Sunday, November 27th, 2011 by Linda Woods

For those who enjoy Christmas decorations, Escondido retailers have much to offer. Whether you hope to purchase a ready-made item, or craft one yourself, or simply enjoy the sights of the season, numerous stores and shops are nearby.

Canterbury Gardens at 2402 S. Escondido Blvd. is a true winter wonderland at this time of the year. While they're proudly 'A Store for All Seasons,' if you've not seen their Christmas displays, you're in for a real treat. They offer tons of items for sale, and also provide several classes and demonstrations for the 'do-it-yourselfer.' A visit to their web site — www.canterburygardens.com — lists their holiday hours: Mon. – Sat, 10 AM – 6 PM; Tue. & Thu. 10 AM – 8 PM; and closed on Sunday. In addition, they offer online shopping.

A welcome newcomer to Grand Avenue is The Christmas Cottage, also known as The Gardener's Cottage. We happily stumbled upon this new shop on our last trip to Farmer's Market. It's located at 217 E. Grand Avenue, and is open from 11 AM – 6 PM every day. While feasting our eyes on their sights of the season, I was told that this is actually their second store, with the other one located in the Bernardo Winery in nearby Rancho Bernardo.

On the other side of Grand Avenue, at 132 E. Grand, is Stitcher's Treasures. They're open Mon. – Sat. and closed on Sunday. In addition to their wonderful stock of stitching supplies for creating beautiful hand-made items, they also offer some gift items, too. You can learn more about them, and the many needle art products and classes they offer, on their web site at www.stitcherstreasures.com.

Last, but not least, both crafting supplies and ready-made decorations can also be found at some of the larger craft stores in Escondido, such as Michael’s, JoAnn Fabrics, and Value-Craft.

  1. Another great option is Rosemary-Duff Florist. Even if you're simply a window shopper, you'll love driving or walking by their storefront on the southwest corner of Second Avenue and Broadway. They do an amazing job of decorating their windows during all seasons of the year, but their holiday display is particularly festive! Check them out online at http://www.rdflorist.com/

  2. Walk two doors west from Stitchers Treasures and you'll find the Rustic Sparrow at 128 E. Grand - an outstanding "uniquely eclectic" boutique chock full of one-of-a-kind gifts, home decor, clothing and accessories, and more. It's a lovely place for one-stop shopping for Christmas at surprisingly low prices! I've posted the Rustic Sparrow's Facebook address - please stop by for more information, some photos and to like us for regular updates.
